Q & A

Congratulations on wanting to learn more about living well! I am honored that you’re taking the time to investigate us on your journey towards health and well-being.

1. What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a health science based on correcting interference in the nerve system. This interference is caused by physical, chemical, and emotional stress.  Specific, gentle chiropractic adjustments remove that interference so your body will function at its optimum potential to help you be the best YOU ever.

2. What is an adjustment?

A specific, non-invasive “thrust” delivered by an instrument called the Activator, or a thrust delivered by hand which is called a “manual, or traditional adjustment.” It’s fast and non-painful. The purpose of the adjustment is to remove nerve interference from your body.

3. Will my adjustments hurt?

No! The Activator, a hand-held electric instrument, delivers a quick thrust. We have safely adjusted tiny children a few hours old right up to practice members ninety-five years or older with this instrument.  We also utilize a drop table that helps absorbs the impact of the adjustment, as well as other techniques to ensure your safety.

4. Can you help my sick child?

I help lots of children, which makes their parents rave about their healthy child. Children respond incredibly well to chiropractic care. Schedule an appointment to have your child checked to see if I can help them.

5. How many times do I have to come?

That’s easy . . . .come as often as you want to heal, feel great, defy age, and live pain-free! Because each individual is unique on every level, it’s difficult to know how many times you will need to be adjusted in order to reach each of your health goals. For practical purposes we can estimate your initial schedule, but that is subject to change according to your rate of progress and goals. One thing is for sure: YOUR goals and expectations will help determine your care plan, frequency, and duration.

6. Will I feel better after getting adjusted?

Your care is unique to YOU, and how your body heals and responds is also unique. Most people are very happy with the results of chiropractic care. Many of them feel relief from pain almost immediately after an adjustment.  It’s also possible that the pain may require several adjustments to go away completely.  Rarely, a small percentage of people may experience a temporary increase in their symptoms before they start to get better. And if that does happen, let us know on your next visit because it's possible we need to utilize a different approach and/or technique for better results. No matter what course your recovery takes, you should also know that beyond the removal of your symptoms, chiropractic care offers an opportunity for much greater overall health, if you choose to use it for that purpose as well.

7. Will chiropractic care be expensive?

That depends on how you define “expensive”. You are always in control of your finances.  Is it going to require more of your money than an over-the-counter or prescription drug? Probably so.  Is it as expensive as surgery or a life surrendered to drugs and their side effects?  NO! Considering the benefits, the experience at this office, the all-inclusiveness of our services, and the cost of providing you with the best health care, our fees are very reasonably priced. Ask us for details! Investing in your health is of priceless value because without your health, not much else matters.  When you’re unhealthy you can’t work; your relationships suffer; you miss out on life’s golden opportunities, and you’re robbed of fully experiencing this world.

8. What services do you offer?

We offer the most personalized supportive chiropractic care possible cutting edge chiropractic adjustments utilizing the QSM3 technique, Activator Methods instrument, intersegmental treatments, manual adjusting, CBP techniques, and a true community of practice members who care about their health and the well-being of those around them, to encourage and support you on your own journey towards well-being.

9. How long will it take to get adjusted?

Even the busiest practice members commit to making chiropractic care a priority in their lives and find the benefits well worth their time. Your adjustment may take between five and ten minutes. That’s it!  If however, you want to schedule extra time, one-on-one to talk about a particular issue, just ask and we will schedule appropriately.

10. What if I feel fine? Do I need to keep coming back?

That is always up to you. The truth is that those who stop care when they are “feeling fine” often return later with the same problem, and sometimes it's worse. On the other hand, those that commit to regular care find their problem rarely returns and they enjoy a higher quality of life and health. If regular chiropractic care keeps you “feeling fine”, why would you choose to stop doing what’s working for you? It’s kind of like this: if your teeth feel fine, do you stop brushing them?

Is chiropractic effective?

Chiropractic helps to remove postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by restoring your own inborn ability to be healthy. For your body to remain healthy, your nervous system must function well. For your nervous system to function well it must be free of interference. By restoring spinal function with Chiropractic adjustments, nerve interference by misaligned vertebrae is removed, thus allowing optimal nervous system function and improved health.

Why should I see a Chiropractor?

Seeing a chiropractor is not only for back pain and neck pain. Chiropractic care is an excellent way to keep your body at its peak performance through nutrition, adjustment and overall wellness. In addition, chiropractic care has been known to help a wide range of conditions from fibromyalgia to diabetes.

What is Subluxation?

When a vertebrae becomes misaligned or moves out of its normal position, this is referred to in the chiropractic profession as a subluxation. Subluxations can be caused by a wide range of issues ranging from a minor slip or bump to a car accident or any sudden trauma. When a vertebrae is subluxated, it begins to put pressure on nerves, blood vessels and everything around it. This pressure comes with a price. The subluxation interrupts the natural pathways that the messages sent from the brain need to be clear in order to be completed properly.

How does chiropractic care work?

Chiropractic is an overall way of looking at the human body. It's based on the idea that the body is self-sustaining and self-healing. The body is in essence completely controlled by the brain through its connection via the spinal cord and the vast networks of nerves that make up the body. When this system is not functioning at its peak, the overall performance of the human body is lacking.

In the chiropractic world, drugs and medicine are not utilized as a form of treating a patient. While supplementation and nutrition are almost always a part of the bigger picture, drugs and prescriptions can be viewed as band-aids to treat symptoms rather than going to the source and treating the real problem.

While it's often perceived that the chiropractor is solely here to treat back and neck pain, this is simply a small piece of what the profession really is capable of handling. Chiropractors not only treat soft and hard tissue problems such as sciatica and joint pain, but are largely called on to deal with more significant issues. Some of these issues include fibromyalgia, allergies, insomnia, headaches and many more.

What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?

Adjustments, or manipulation as they're sometimes referred to is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place for a number of reasons ranging from normal daily activity to trauma such as a car accident.

When these vertebrae are out of place, it has an overall systemic effect from muscular to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow of all nerves and systems in the body from the brain, we can't function at our peak.

An adjustment is often a pressure from the chiropractor utilizing the hands or an instrument to move a vertebrae back into place. This happens with a quick movement and is often without discomfort. You may hear a noise that sounds like you're cracking your knuckles referred to as joint cavitation. It is the release of gases such as oxygen and nitrogen from the joint.

What can I expect from my visit to a chiropractor?

Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of us. Maybe we've heard through a friend or have done some research online. It's possible that you are just fed up with living in pain and it's time to do something about it. In either case, your first visit to the chiropractor will really be about getting to know the chiropractor and discussing your history, current condition and goals.

What results can I expect from treatment?

Chiropractic is based on the idea of removing imbalances both structural and postural in an effort to allow our body to heal itself. For this to happen the network of nerves and signals from your brain, down your spinal cord, to the network of nerves must be allowed to flow freely without any interruption. Chiropractors have the ability and skill to remove these interruptions or misalignments and allow the body to perform as it was meant to.

If you've ever been in a car accident, played a sport, fell down or just bumped into something too hard, it's very possible that you are not functioning at your best due to a misalignment. While there are many potential mechanical or structural causes for misalignment, there are also chemical reasons. For instance, if you smoke or drink excessively or even just have a poor diet, the chemical issues in your body can eventually cause underlying conditions and disease to appear.

Allowing a chiropractor to get you back on track both chemically and structurally will bring your body back to the proper state it should be in to perform at its peak.
